Energy is everything. EVERYTHING. But not all energy is the same. 

Most things in our world are made of a "stable" energy. This stable energy can be forced to release its bonds, and it will break down into light and heat in various forms, both visible and invisible.

However there is an "emotional" energy that seeps into our world. This energy is highly reactive to living things. I believe that the "God" that reshaped our world left a drip feed active when she left.

It flows into all humans, changing them subtly. Helping them. It changes inside Humans. Demons must consume humans to take this energy into their body, and they change the energy in turn.

Everything is energy. And Energy is everything. 

How do people not see this? It is EVERYTHING.
